Are they not just selling most of this back to the Fed the next week or am I misunderstanding what the latest shell game is?

Gee I don't know, could it be a bunch of recent data suggesting the consumer is weakening in a deflationary environment where credit is shrinking and the job market is tough.

Fed's only got about 37 billion left out of the original 300 announced to buy treasuries with.

Uh, they're not making any money doing that, and The Fed has been running primarily in the "belly" of the curve.

This looks real - they just parked $22 billion dollars with Treasury for two months at zero return, and WANTED to park nearly $100 billion (!)

Why, given what we're being told?

The PD's sell them to Japanese businessmen for a 10% return... who then pile them up in suitcases and take them to Italy, where they are distributed throughout Eurpoe and sold as novelty items on the street for a 50% mark up.

lol

When is the best time to short this "new bull market"? Any sort of indicators you guys are looking for to signal a reverse in the tread and not get your head cut off with the continual pump job?

You are asking a lot of "tend-to-be-shorts" who've generally been smoked over the past month or so, Striker. That would be kind of like asking a motorcycle rider who is in the ICU in a full-body cast "what's the best way to start getting into riding bikes?"

There is no best time. If you believe in the short thesis, IMO you scale into very long duration puts and walk away from this thing.

You can try an hide in commodities, but when things start going bad and people have to meet margin calls......they will be forced to sell commodities to pay for these margin calls. Once the selling begins in commodities, it is like a foot race. No one watns to be the last one out. Gold is not an execption to this, but......the pain is usually much less. Copper and the other volatile commodities would get hit pretty hard on this. JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION

I thought the PDs had to be involved with these OMOs similar to treas auctions? I could be completely off in that assumption and willfully admit so, so please be kind if I just put my foot in my mouth with that question.

Could they have goosed the bid to keep the price high for when this eventually gets sold back to fed so as to hide the appearance of the taking of a loss?

I thought the PDs were usually middle men who buy at X and sell at X+Y. At that low of an interest rate, I don't think Y can be very much.

The difference between commodities and stock is commodities are tied to the real world. People buying them for investment must pay for interest, storage and insurance. I have been thinking that Shanghai and commodities will be leading the way down. We received a bounce on oil inventories today, but we still have not broke that double top which I am watching.

In addition, remember this. The producers of such commodities need to produce them more than the consumer needs to consume them.

Gen -- how does this auction compare to the recent past.

Warning, I am short commodities and I could be wrong here.

One possibility is that there is some sort of reverse/recursive regulatory capture going on here - all these banks continue to exist because the Fed/Treasury allows them to lie about their financial position. If the PD bid numbers were totally artificial and engineered to produce a specific result, how would we know?
