Gen, I will sign it. I don't like suggestion 6 that I pasted below, but realize the difficulty in removing too much of their power. The new govt formal liquidity system will eventually get gamed for political and populace behavior modification purposes. The government should provide an honest, fair playing field for the marketplace to offer the loans, and no more.

6. If it is judged that Congress must provide a formal liquidity system for conforming mortgage loans, defined as loans originated with a 20% cash down payment (no seconds, “carry backs”, or other games permitted), a maximum of 36% TI (“back end” ratio), and a fixed rate of either 15 or 30 years, then Congress should establish via separate legislation a formal government program to provide said loans, separately administered and regulated. Such a program must include felony criminal penalties for any form of fraud in the application and underwriting process and be strictly enforced against all who attempt to game the system, including Borrowers, Realtors, Appraisers, Loan Officers and Banks. Such an explicit government underwriter of loans, operated prudently, would inure to the benefit of the Government and citizens as the coupon thus earned would be at a spread to Treasury debt and provide a net tangible budgetary benefit to the United States.

Krz, I don't know if we need that sort of backstop or not for mortgage liquidity. But I'm willing to concede that we might, and if it is in fact judged necessary, this is the right way to do it - not bail out Fannie and Freddie.

The Government provided one during The Depression, and it was both sound and helped. 50 years later it was corrupted, but that's a long damn time.

I am sending this baby to everyone I know. This is the most important petition I can think of ever being involved in. It may fail, but as Gen says, this is it. Please donate, or attend the protests, and tell everyone you know. We need this!

Wow, just wow......another great one from KD!!

Signed, and confirmed. I sent it on to my contacts, here is the e-mail I wrote, feel free to use any part of it when asking friends to sign.

E-mail I sent:

Personally, I hate mass mailings, they are impersonal and usually junk.

This is not.

We have all seen mass e-mails about "boycotting" gas station, in an effort to bring down the price of fuel. This does nothing to address the fundamental reasons behind our huge increase in energy prices.

Please take the time to read the article here, and sign the petition.

Link
or
http://market-ticker.denninger.net/archi....

I have already done both.

If we allow Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to be "bailed out" or otherwise nationalized, we will see a permanent and huge increase in our already high energy prices.

It's your choice, we can stop this if we speak up and say NO MORE BULL****! NO MORE BAILOUTS

If we choose to sit by and let it happen, we will get exactly what we deserve.

It's time to write letters, call radio stations, and stand up for ourselves!

Feel free to pass this e-mail around, or (even better) write you own and send this link/petition to your contacts.

If you do nothing, you have absolutely ZERO right to complain about high gas prices, high unemployment, high food prices, and the devaluation of our dollar....because when you were warned, you did nothing.

You decide.

Thanks Gen. Your effort is truely amazing. I wish I could get more of my friends to take an interest in economics and politics. The problem I keep running into is people do not want to cause anything that might devalue their 401k or pension fund. I always tell them they can sit in cash but they never want to. I wish I had a better suggestion so they would be willing to do something.

Gen, I signed but did not receive the reply message. I re-signed and checked email for accuracy and still, no reply. I will keep looking. I have signed and received response email for every petition to date, with same email address. Might be my email if no one else is having trouble.

Thanks for your efforts as always.

For anyone who's having trouble finding the reply messages, make sure you look thru your WHOLE spam folder - a lot of those who send spam date their messages to make sure they appear at the top of the spam list.

Even tho I received my confirmation message instantly, I had to look for it - it was buried way down deep in my spam folder.

Gen, you don't need a seperate government agency. You've got one - HUD. And if it requires that loans not exceed the median for the area that is fine. If you can't come up with a 3% downpayment you don't need to be buying a house. And if you need government assistance for a downpayment a 1500 sq ft 3/2/2 in a decent neighborhood better work for you.
