The last data I saw showed that they will probably average $100bn per WEEK in new issuance for several months. They'll have to monetize it. They'll just have to at this point.

That's right $100 billion a week until Sept 30th fiscal year is over. We're only a bit over halfway there. And all of those projections are based on "green shoots" We're gonna need more money.

two questions 1) when was the last fail like this 2) would the recent change in the indirect/direct formula have made this better or worse?

China's US dollar reserves are $2 trillion... In one week, the treasury is selling 10% of that in debt. No wonder China doesn't gob it all up.

Isn't China sort of like COF on a International level. They have a bunch of money lent out to an overextended deadbeat without job(S). That doesn't help your balance sheet, does it?

Looked on the treasury site for their auction results, was connected to their FTP and their index txt sheet was blank! Only thing that I can guess is December of 2008 would be our nearest point of something failing like that.
---------- How long can .gov prop the markets? My guess is not indefinitely.

From what I found from this article the last bid to cover less than 2.0 was march 2004.. Click link to see the whole article.. http://www.safehaven.ca/article-2336.htm Diabolical Debtor's Delusions by R. Kirby / G. Bullock US Treasury 10 Year Auctions In 2004 [Amounts in billions] Date Amt. High Yld. For your reading enjoyment I have included the date of auction, amount auctioned, high yield accepted, aggregate foreign bids tendered, foreign percentage of total bids tendered, total bids tendered as well as bid to cover ratio . Now I would like to draw your attention to the 10 year auction of September 9, 2004. As one can see, Dear Reader, someone apparently forgot to invite the foreigners to the debt bash on this particular date - or they simply forgot to show up? The day these bonds were auctioned, these 10-year bonds were trading in the when issued [wi] market at markedly lower rates than 4.195%. In fact, those very bonds were trading much closer to 4.10% the morning of the auction. It would appear to me, that 4.10 % did not seem very attractive to the kindness of strangers who finance our lifestyles and buy our debt - it appears that they voted with their check books and their money - and stayed home! We wonder if these blokes have been reading too much Catherine Austin Fitts? In fact, in bond circles, this auction was referred to as a complete disaster. I would suggest to anyone who wants to listen that this was a "shot over the bow" by the kind foreigners from Europe and Eastern Asia. ---------- Total destruction the only solution ~Real Situation by Bob Marley
