KD,

In reading today's Ticker, you indicate the need to be both a login to the Forum and a G. Con. to access future Tickers.

I'm logged on to the Forum and have signed petitions but I'm not a Gold Contributor. In fact, I don't know what a Gold Contributor is and would like to know more so that I can access future Tickers.

Can you clarify?

Thanks

Great Ticker for Monday 2/25/08.

To Karl, what I am about to say is in NO WAY designed to upset you.

But...as an "educated person", I want practically everything you describe to happen, the sooner, the better. The short term pain will be EXTREME; so EXTREME that politicians cannot even consider it. Seriously, even if your petition had 100,000 signatures, politicians just cannot do it. Do I wish they could? Of course. But look at todays news. Congress apparently is gonna investigate BEEF. Not sausage; it's too painful; the numbers are TOO LARGE. The public can understand bad beef.

Your efforts, re: the petition, are quite admirable. Seriously, it's too bad you don't broadcast on satellite radio or TV; I am sure your audience would quickly advance.

Good luck to you; and if you ever head west (to the best), drop a line. Until then, this is my last post.

Can you take out a "mortgage" on the Gold Con. for 12.50 a month plus a 6.5% nut and get the star right now? It's the american dream after all.

Kudos, Karl for having the good sense to listen to what you need, for good will of head, heart, and family.

I still think you are the greatest!! Always will--you are one of those (5) people on my list when you die and go to heaven--that I meet!!!

I've been lurking for a while, and found the Tickers helpful. But, I couldn't care less about the Technicals. (Frankly, I learn more in less time by reading than by listening/watching video.) So, I have some questions about the proposed new business model. I understand that high-volume video downloads eat bandwidth that isn't free. But why is it that Karl is turning off the (public) Tickers in order to raise money for the Technicals? Why couldn't the Technicals be posted somewhere else (YouTube)? Why not take some sort of advertising-support approach? Or, how about a cable-TV style "pay per view" or "video on demand" approach? Why not just charge, per Technical downloaded, what the bandwidth costs plus a reasonable service fee? I find the Tickers interesting but you know, there's a lot of other interesting stuff out there, and my trading profits aren't enough to pay $150 for the privilege of reading a blog. ValueLine is only $360/year. I grant that it doesn't come with Karl's insight, but in terms of scale of information, it's a significantly larger pool of data.

The real worry here is that we're heading towards unintended consequences: if fewer people are able to read the Tickers in a timely fashion, fewer will get "The Gospel According to Karl", and fewer will join the forums etc. The community as a whole will not grow.

If there are exclusive rights for those who contribute, that's your call.

What about those that signed BOTH petitions? You have clearly drawn a line in the sand regarding your priorities. JMO, you just shot yourself in the foot.

No free access to a very educational ticker....no signatures.

I would really like to know Karl...Just how do you feel about those whome have contributed, but NOT signed the petitions? Yeah, that's right...I said the F word.

To be honest, I got on this forum because of the Ticker. Someone passed along one of your rants to a forum I frequent, and I started reading the tickers. Then I started reading the forum. Then I joined the forum, signed one petition, then the other. Lobbied friends to sign too (not always successfully). Emailed and called senators. Got clueless replies. Somewhere in there I started watching the technicals. (To start with I had no interest, and was only looking at the political stuff and the macro picture.)

It is kind of silly to make the tickers only accessible to those who already know they're there (and pay up). I mean, if I were going to rant like that, I'd want the whole world to see. ;-)

Oh well, the original Market Ticker had similar problems. People just wanted stock tips. They didn't care about the how or why.

Well as I have said in the other thread, the Ticker going "only gold" is not set in stone. Rightnow doing so will take work, and I'm not convinced whether its worth it or not.

The Videos are. If that model fails (e.g. nobody ponies) then there is no cost to distribute and thus while it "dies" it does so because there's no value.

The driver on this was the 5,000 people hitting the videos DAILY, with nearly all of them being non-donors, and the whiners have an AMAZING correlation with video watchers who haven't donated.

Correlating logs is easy kids, and I'm very tempted to start posting the login IDs of the people complaining here who have no star and yet correlate with those who have been viewing the videos, how often they've done so.

Keep the horse**** up without disclosing your self-interest and that's EXACTLY what's going to be in the next ticker - a list of forum login IDs who have not donated that correlate with the video viewers.

Gen,

Will the held AAA ratings of the monolines have any impact on the muni sales? The last auction failed due to the "potential" downgrade and now they are still on watch-negative.

If "the money" doesn't buy this line of bull**** than I would assume that the next muni auction would fail as well and the .gov would be back at square one again...

is everyone just buying time? What am I missing?

Thanks

Probably not, because for new Muni sales you'd have to be an idiot not to just buy your wrapper from Berkshire.

I will be donating as soon as I call my credit card company. Security code came off my card.

I hope you will leave the Ticker for free, as you reach and educate many.

You have done a great job Karl.

Karl:

This is my first post in this forum. I joined because I read your Ticker and some of your comments on the forum and thought I would like getting to know a like-minded person.

The software took a bit of getting used to, but I like it very much, as it very competently made it easy to recover when i made mistakes due to ignorance and lack of experience.

The donation idea came as a surprise, it was old news when I discovered it, and I had to hunt for the explanation. Later the new Ticker, subject of this thread, explained it all OK.

Gold status is on next month's Pay-pal budget, after I discontinue other donations having less reason to support.

A suggestion for the webmaster: I am sure I signed "the petition", but I do not know which one, now that I learned that there are two! I suffer from mild ADD, and would find it helpful if I could easily verify my petition signing status, not enjoying an eidetic memory for everything I have seen and done on this forum and blog site, nor having yet found how to do so.

The "technicals" are interesting to me, but Comcast has only let through 12 minutes maximum of the streaming content before my computer could no longer access the site. I hope the gold status helps make the channel more accessible.

Thanks for a great blog and forum!

Your Newbie subscriber,
Steve

Karl -

I think the $150 contribution is a good idea. I find your insight far better than most and $150 is a small fraction of the benefit I get from it. You provide the pieces of the puzzle the rest of us don't have, so why should you carry the entire burden?

I also agree with your "commons" problem. If no one owns it, it gets trashed because no one values it. Nobody want to invest in it either, since they feel others might invest less. Well, now we can all contribute $150 ...problem solved.

Regarding the petitions ...I have signed them both and agree with them both. I don't see a solution for this though. I firmly believe we saw the Fed, SEC, Ambac, S&P, state regulators, etc. commit conspiracy to defraud investors (by allowing Ambac to retain their AAA rating). A wink and a nod and the fraud continues ...to what end ...to give enough time for Congress to add a few trillion more US$ to the national debt to bail out the financial sector?? If not, then what?

Anyway, you are a true patriot and I have nothing but respect for what you are doing ...but sometimes it seems like you are trying to stop a moving train. I think these ****ers are in too deep to change direction now ...and I think congress is too stupid (or corrupt) to recognize the trojan horse being presented to them by BofA and the other pigmen. I admire that you are trying to do, but I don't see this ending well regardless.

Frankly, that'd be a waste of time. If a person hasn't contributed and still bitch, what makes you think they would care that you put up their login info or even their real names and home addresses? People here are from all over the country and world, no chance in hell that one of them runs into another, recognizes a whiner and calls them out on it.

I think the current situation is the best resolution. Make some contribution and get access to video.

Did I miss something?

I don't recall there being that many problems with people.

Were these things deleted before we saw them? Did it take a lot of work to manage?

I understand the bandwidth issue. That gets expensive.

Try http://15minuteservers.com for cheap, reliable hosting. That's what I use and all my friends are amazed at the deal when I show them.
