Quote:No more "freebies" for illegals. Period. No free medical care, no free schools, not even jailing people - you get caught here illegally you get sent home. Period, end of discussion, full-stop. Start right now and enforce the damn law; a HUGE percentage of California's prison population are in fact illegal aliens. We pay twice - first for the crime, then again to jail them. Stop being stupid. And send the country of origin the bill for transport. This could easily be accomplished via reducing promised aid, since many of these nations receive it, a set ammount per national repatriated...

To KD & upstream posters - all of your recommendations & wishes will, in fact, shortly become reality. Every aspect of our current system, including supporting illegals, criminalizing drugs & jailing offenders, has been financed & propped up by the productive capital generated by 'others' ie China. While they performed the hard, messy, sweaty work, we used their proceeds to erect a facade where every whim & fantasy of social 'equality' could be financed by OPM. Pride goeth before the fall. When the money stops, so do the programs. We are going to be living in a much freer society, albeit more dangerous & unpredictable, in not too short of time. It is often said that California indicates the future of the USA. I'll take it one step further: Los Angeles points to California's future. If you want to know what's in store for the USA both economically & politically, follow & study LA as events begin to unfold. Last modified:

Gen: I agree with everything in that ticker, sounds a lot like one of my standard rants. The People's Republic of California is set up for a HUGE fall. Go after the businesses that hire illegals, and bill them for the transport. Shut down the business case for bringing illegals in, and the problem will all but disappear. And can the H-1B Visa program too. Let's get those college grads some jobs. If a foreigner really does have superior skills in a field, then a business should expect to pay more for his or her services. Aren't they after all expecting greater rewards for the work? Our government should not be in the business of exporting the flight of jobs from this country. Oh, and let's banish Dick Armey to India while we're at it. ---------- "You can know the name of a bird in all the languages of the world, but when you're finished, you'll know absolutely nothing whatever about the bird... I'm with Empyre. Perhaps send the Mexican government a bill for the services its citizens obtain in this country? Bill back for medical expenses, incarceration costs, welfare, housing, education and any additional costs that were incurred as a result of services rendered to "undocumented workers" from Mexico. And didn't I just read somewhere that there are currently 19,000 illegal immigrants sitting in California correctional facilities? Yes, I think I did. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-.... I know that Mexico has its own set of issues they're dealing with, but is it possible that upon receiving a bill from the U.S. ("plus interest" clock ticking) that perhaps the Mexican government would then have a vested interest in combating illegal border crossings? Dunno. Guess I'm just blowing off some steam. When there isn't any money left, it's time to make the *tough choices* that have been put off for so long. Last modified:

Blocking illegal, unskilled immigrants from taking jobs and services? I have no problem with that. But getting rid of (or decreasing) H-1Bs would only serve to cripple R&D in the US. Getting the best available talent is what matters. And in math and science, the US simply isn't producing enough of it.

Wouldn't it be great if the gvt actually did something useful. They will not. Obviously I'm a pessimist. The guys/gals running the show are in such a different world than everyone else. Their social circle likely doesn't include anyone that makes <$250k/yr. Seriously, the people running the country have next to nothing in common with 80% of the population! They'll try to use their little finger to plug this failing dam. It's Band-Aids all around! I don't see why the CA deficit should be much of a (particular) problem at all. We're talking about < $100 billion. With Pelosi being speaker and 10% of congress coming from CA (not to mention 55 electoral votes), it seems to me to be a foregone conclusion that they will get a huge federal bailout. Treasury just issues more debt & the Fed buys it with newly printed money. And so on, and so on. Much as I'd like to see CA wallow in their own feces, we'll all be up to our necks in it soon. The feds don't know how to do anything but print money at this point. And they're going to do it until we need to use wheelbarrows to carry it around. ---------- "Neither a borrower nor a lender be." - Harold Hecuba

The US will not produce the best talent, because the industry doesn't want Americans. They want the subsidies. If the talent isn't worth it for a business to pay for it, how does it become worth it if the taxpayer foots the bills? :Last time I was job hunting in Texas, a number of employers didn't even want to see my resume unless I had an H-1B Visa. That mattered more than my skill set, and I was born and raised in the area. I call BS on the idea that I need to subsidize foreigners to lock me out my career. But think about what you're saying Micron. You're saying these people aren't worth spending the extra money on, unless you get a government subsidy check. If they aren't worth the expense, don't hire them. ---------- "You can know the name of a bird in all the languages of the world, but when you're finished, you'll know absolutely nothing whatever about the bird... And in math and science, the US simply isn't producing enough of it. Horse****. If we stop sending all the quants to Wall Street and reserved a few more for Silicon Valley there'd be lots to choose from. AND is we stop bringing in cheap labor aka h1b visas we could pay more for the engineering talent to attract them. Bell Labs turned out innovation after innovation for years with 90% or better American engineers and mathematicians and physicists...until h1b visa numhbers started ramping up. Then they started laying off and moving R&D overseas and hiring h1b to replace Americans. ---------- "Neither the wisest Constitution nor the wisest laws will secure the liberty and happiness of a people whose manners are universally corrupt." Just had a brainstorm - instead of .gov bacstopping CA's $24,000,000,000 deficit, spend that same amount paying private companies $2k a head to deliver 'undocumented aliens' to deportation centers. 12,000,000* X $2,000 = $24,000,000,000. Who says that it would be too expensive to send them all home? (* Of course that's the 'official' estimate, the real number is probably much higher - but many will start self-deporting once the heat is turned up.) ---------- Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire.
