The OTS should have been shut down after the S+L disaster on their watch. The fact is the pro-housing and home ownership for all political group was too powerful and they remained. Towards the end of this latest disaster- that the OTS was complicit in it was an open secret. If banks got any pressure from their regulator, switch to a thrift charter and problem solved...This is just like the rating agency games where Issuers would pit agencies vs one another to get the answer they wanted. What resources are really available for independent investigative/journalistic/legal exploration, exposure and prosecution of these Frauds? Where do the jurisdictions and powers of FBI, CIA and the AGs merge and diverge? There simply have to be legal mechanisms for remedy that can be initiated by one or more Agencies. I am finding it increasingly difficult to believe that the entirety of the Federal Legal apparatus is completely captured. There you have it. One day a branch office says BankUnited. The next day it says the same thing. Yet somehow the FDIC takes a $4,900,000,000 hit. Time for another freebie. Someone could invent a board game about all this and just call it Looting Operation. The goal of the game would be how much can be looted before millions of Americans can't take it anymore. On May 25, 2009, Americans are taking it in stride. It's a darn shame. So I shall continue to legally LOOT them of their money because apparently they don't want it.
