Nothing good happens, nothing gets done about it and the Dow just goes up and down just like any other day... What will be the excuse today if it trades up? Bargain hunting again? Old fantasies die hard.

Steal a car and you're a felon. Steal a million dollars and you're an embezzler. Steal billions and you're saving the economy.

I'm tired of waiting for congress to act. If they continue to support failed institutions through taxpayer bailouts (now GM too?), then I think it is time for the American people to take over the reigns and bring down these institutions by boycotting those who accept government bailouts. If the government tries to prop them up, the people should take them down. It is time for the American people to stop enabling Washington's crap. Congress thinks they are in charge but they are not, the consumer is in charge. All that is needed is for the consumer to figure out that they have the power, if only they will organize. Francy, all you have to do is offer free flat-screen tv's, and you will win the love of the proles. ---------- In the space of a weekend, I nearly lost everything and got it all back. - Clayton Riddell 2008-11-17 12:20:15

The Fed claims to be a "private central bank" but in fact that's a lie too - their losses are yours, and their "liquidity" is your tax money. If The Fed wants to be a "private bank" then cut it off from taxpayer subsidy and revoke its right to print money - instead, force it to compete for private capital just like everyone else. (Threaten Bernanke with that and watch his face turn white and underwear brown.)

Francyne, I love the idea. A bailout boycott is one way of striking back. Sure, it will be pooh-poohed, but anything is worth trying. Run it through the fedup forum.

It would mean a total restructuring, going back to basics with a new structure of 10% tax rate for both Fed and state. 5% goes to the Fed, if they can't get by on 5% of gross income then the Fed is too big, and 5% to state to make regional services. Back to individual responsibility and because of that a better lifestyle and less complicated. Pay as you go for what you can afford. We need a paradigm shift from collective to individual freedom and liberty. Keep our military nose out of other countries business and designed for defense only, enough of feeding the beast and building an empire of dominance for a few selected power elite to play with. 2008-11-17 19:56:12

Simplest way to keep everything balanced - at the end of the fiscal year the .gov sends every American a bill for their share of cost overruns. Bet they'd work on balancing the budget then.
---------- Since September it's just gotten colder and colder. There's less daylight now, I've noticed too. This can only mean one thing - the sun is going out. In a few more months the Earth will be a dark and lifeless ball of ice. 2008-11-18 01:02:37
