No, he said something that in fact is the same thing though: "A sufficiently-determined central bank can always stop a deflation."

Quote:"A sufficiently-determined central bank can always stop a deflation." Karl, are you disagreeing with the logic or the Constitutional aspect? Logically, he is correct; after all, wouldn't the corollary be correct: "A sufficiently-determined central bank can always create (hyper)-inflation."? What's to stop him from mailing $1T to every citizen? Congress? The Law (1913 Act)? Which brings us to the Constitutional aspect. In what alternative universe did Bernanke, et al assume that this sacred compact, made between free born citizens and a government created by US to serve OUR ends, gives them license to become our masters? Ben is right - a sufficient determined central bank can do just that - if it is allowed. I wonder what the Reps think as they hear him speak. Do any even realize the magnitude of what he said in the context of 'consent of the governed'? Do they realize just how far up **** creek we are by letting this guy mess around with the levers while they occupy themselves with inconsequential matters? This is not going to end well - at least in the short-term. For future generations, this is going to turn out extremely well - they are going to experience a much freer, looser country after the central government collapses and a new federal republic is re-built from scratch.

Quote:No one man should have anything close to this kind of power (or the impression thereof). something to think about...a lot of people, especially when he was in office, credit greenspan for the "roaring" economy of the late 90s. people have also blamed him for the housing bubble and subsequent bursting of that bubble. they do the same thing with bernanke. wasn't the point of founding the country so that there wouldn't be one person with enough power that could be credited or blamed for such things? ---------- "People have predicted the end of America in the past and been wrong. Always thought he would bet everything on stopping deflation. What happens when he gets what he wants and a lot more? The dollar goes down the tubes, rates spike to double digits while the economy is in bad shape.

The deflation happens anyway, but along with it, middle class America is utterly destroyed and picks up pitchforks - because they can't afford the ammunition for their rifles. ---------- "The monetary base in ALL modern monetary systems is the sum of unencumbered assets against which one is both WILLING AND ABLE to borrow." - Me

The funny thing about Ben is that when one looks at hundreds of hours of video footage, he seems to be a good guy. Wrong team? Probably. Playing bad hands? Probably. But unlike most of us, he HAS to play. A few of us were talking about this earlier and someone posed the question: does Ben even get a vacation? Like going fishing for a few days? Or is it on call 24/7 in case some financial disaster strikes? If so, I would not want that kind of life. ---------- "We don't quit.
