Oddly, since 9am, I've heard nothing excessively bullish on bloomberg and a whole series of negative or negative toned reports. >15 minutes now.

It's shocking.

The media has been deceiving the American public for years. The internet has been great in exposing their lies and omissions, but the television media in particular is a powerful tool that in the wrong hands is more dangerous to freedom and transparency than the corrupt politicians themselves, imho.

How strangely convenient that this weekend the FT and the NYT suddenly have bogus stories about how much cash the Treasury is supposedly earning from bailing out the banks.

Seems like well-planted happy talk to me, coming only a few days after the Fed and the banks tried to strong-arm Judge Preska into not yanking the covers off their cabal of secret-handshake dick-heads.

As long as most of them have a job and you can still buy gas and groceries they will continue to trust authority. Public schools and churches have hammered it into the people that the people in charge are smarter than them and will take care of them. They BELIEVE - poor schmucks.

I don't think MSM is conciously misleading anyone. These people subconsciously wish for things to be better. Once again, they are at the top of the 'system' and therefore wish to see it prosper and succeed. This bleeds into their thinking and so everytime a Peter Schiff gets on tv and starts talking negatively about our future prospects, some TV-Babe with shiny lipstick and boots up to her knees gets all annoyed because he's talking about something that may jeopardize her $275K salary and Upper West Side Loft.

Amazingly enough the media continues to talk about how "we're recovering" . . .

MSNBC today actually has a reality-check article on how small retailers are getting destroyed:

Sales at privately held retailers fell 3.63 percent on average for the first seven months of this year, as compared to an average drop of 1.34 percent for publicly held companies in the same period, according to Sageworks Inc., which provides financial data on privately held companies. The data is based on financial records from thousands of accountants.
.........
In addition to the drop in business, experts say small businesses may be having a tougher time in part because they don’t necessarily have the cash reserves to make it through a deep trough. The credit crunch has exacerbated that problem, leaving some small retailers unable to obtain credit to either ride out the storm or keep the inventory they need to stay in business.
..........
To keep his hobby business going even as sales have plummeted, Fine and his only remaining employee – his brother – have stopped taking paychecks, and he’s burned through much of his savings. Nevertheless, he said he’s behind on his home mortgage and worried about whether he’ll be able to pay next month’s rent on his store.

Meanwhile, he’s watching many of his competitors go out of business, along with several other local businesses in the downtown area where he’s located.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32586241/ns/....

There is going to be a massive wave of bankruptcies of small businesses.

Ah yes, 20 years ago they wanted reporters and anchors to be actors, now they have actors who they want to pass off as reporters/anchors.

That's the money quote. I know you've spent alot of time throwing out the giving the drunk more alcohol premise and they've dismissed it. A question about Freddie and Fannie... If the government does not assume the losses who does? I am assuming since they have not taken them onto the government sheet there is some choice in the matter.

We tivo and watch Charlie Gibson/ABC nightly news about every night. There are some nights the economy is not even mentioned. You would not realize that we are either in/coming out of/going into a recession if that's the only news you had. Sadly, that's all the news that many people get.

Just to give CNBC a rest - tonight (8:30 European Time) CNN - Quest Means Business reported the end of the recession! Bugger, now where will all the bears go!

Oh, their reason: demand is up, market volume proves the retail investor is back with gusto! The doom-says have it wrong and the economy is showing this day by day. The recovery remains in place, today's 'minor' correction on the DOW was simply due to mis-reading of the impact of China - which doesn't really matter!!!!!!

OK - I'm an average mug - so where can I get a long position on Tout Media BS? Lets face it - the BS fundamentals have never been higher, the techs have crossed with extreme upside momentum, green-shoots need lots of the stuff to grow (in the dark) and there is global State support: A BS long has to be 'the' sure thing?

Please please - I need a spread-bet index on a 'news' / 'reality' pair: can we get the news co's to cover their own outpourings?

If only ...

The disconnect between the reporting and what is actually occurring has more to do with which party is in the White House right now. The MSM is the mouthpiece of the Democrat party and they'll do what they can to minimize the bad news about employment and bank failures. If a Republican were president, you'd hear a constant drum beat about unemployment and recession every night. As long as the Mocha Metrosexual is president the MSM will do everything, they can to spin the bad news in his favor.

Larsen, during the Bush Administration - all eight years - the MSM did the same thing as today with The Messiah - NOTHING!

All of the bogus U.S. Goobermint reporting has been going on for years and years. In all cases, the MSM did NOTHING to analyze data. All that they did was report the Headline Numbers/Data, which are bull****!

It is this type of Democratic/Republican crap that has us in the situation that we find our country. Get a clue, buy a vowel, and start thinking as an INDEPENDENT!
