I'm 24 years old, from the NYC area where everyone lives under the illusion that they know better than the rest of the nation. You wouldn't believe how many friends I have who aspire to be in politics. They think it's some sort of game. They are all Democrats and think being in the Democratic Party under Obama is the coolest thing in the world. They grew up in the bubble of the 90s/00s where America's political empire was peaking. As such, they never had any reason to question the financial reasons behind the empire. I was talking to one such friend who works for a Democratic State Senator over the weekend, trying to explain to him the simple math of how truly screwed we are. He's still living in the bubble, saying "You are so pessimistic" "You have no compassion, the govt intervention will turn the economy around and save these workers" "We are the most enterprising nation in the world" Apparently these "educated" NYers forgot to educate themselves about the bond market and the credit/debt-based monetary system. You can get a HS diploma and college degree without ever having to learn about how the govt creates money and finances itself. I'm telling you, my generation has NO IDEA the train wreck that is coming. The ones who are awake are few and far between and even most of those are too apathetic to pick up the phone and call their rep, much less actually vote from someone who doesn't have a D or R next to their name. They won't learn the train is coming until it actually hits them. The bubble they grew up in was simply too protective. I guess I'll have the satisfaction that I tried tirelessly to warn them and help prevent it. Last modified:

yep this one will get about 20 pages of responses. i just don't see it getting that bad, but I have a plan. Off to my parents in Podunkville at first sign of trouble. Heh. We're saving at about 25-30% of our gross. I'm afraid it might not be enough, we're young and went through some rough times and learned some lessons the hard way. Please tell me this doesn't happen until at least Sept! 2009-06-08 18:04:32

Kab, it could happen TOMORROW. Most likely it won't, but the warning shots have been fired. Quote:Pull ALL of your business from ANY bank that has received federal assistance Is this a capital preservation step, or just a way to hurt them back just a bit? I have done nearly everything on that list (and quite a bit more in some areas), but still use some of the big firms for accounts. Do you see these at risk, and thus the need to move funds is related to risk avoidance? Or is it just do not contribute to the thieves if you dont have to? 2009-06-08 18:14:20

ssg263- In history realism is often confused with pessimism. Stick to your plan and take comfort in preparing for the worst that you are already ahead of the game.

I guess buying a house at these current prices is DOA! So, then maybe buying a house in the Fall might be the time to get a "McMansion" for the price of a whole "Hooverville" shanty-town?! What about keeping stocks in Energy companies or even directly in commodities? 2009-06-08 18:26:45

Several questions: I have a direct deposit of my paycheck. If/ when TSHTF and I still have a paycheck coming in and the banks or my bank, Chase, is closed or a general bank holiday. etc. then what should I do? I'm thinking ... Stop the DD and get it in physical paper form then take to Wal mart and for $3.00 service charge get it cashed. The only problem with this if the banks or a major bank like Chase is closed then the Wal-marts of America will not have the cash since (I assume) they get it from the (now closed) banking system. Any ideas? ------------- I have a MC with ~$500.00 balance. Should I pay this off totally now (easily done) or just pay it off slowly and save the cash? ---- What about my MC being used for my electrical bill (auto pay through the MC) and other payments too? How will that work in a credit shutdown? ---- In a TSHTF scenario like Karl describes can I assume that electricty will still be on? BTW, my plans are taking into account that the electricty is off but just wondering none the less. ----- Would appreciate any advice/answers to these questions. Thanks. --- PS Thanks Karl, This will be printed out and hung on the fridge & emailed to people I care about. ---------- Icecastle: Do you really think they will avoid the errors you warn against? Thank you for everything you do! I never miss a ticker. This has left me educated enough to explain to people what is happening - if they ask. Little by little, the truth percolates. The usual response - from people ready to hear because they are asking questions - is "I had a feeling it was something like that" And... Homonym Alert - Without further ado (as opposed to adieu... unless we were saying adieu to low interest rates, no money down mortages, comfy retirements for baby-boomers, etc... in which case it definitely works as a play on words!) ---------- écrasez l'infâme -Voltaire To punish the oppressors of humanity is clemency; to forgive them is barbarity. —Robespierre Last modified:
