They brag how well their fund managers did in 2007.

But 2008?

I suspect "Reopened to new investors" means that lots of their old investors have bailed out. Gee, I wonder why?

FCNTX down 35% over the last 1 year.
FLPSX down 42% over the last 1 year.

Wake me up when the green line gets above the red line again:

Some funds aren't allowed to get out of certain asset classes. I have listened to a portfolio manager (i think he was from han****, but i forget--it was almost 10 years ago) say he wished he could sell everything and hide, but that wasn't an option. his fund got hit hard, and he saw it coming. but it was a sector fund, so he did what the rules demanded.

people need to be aware if the fund is fully invested at all times. if that's the case, the client needs to decide when to sell, because the manager won't. Some people like the handcuffs. others need them to keep from trading at the wrong times. I can't prove it, but my gut tells me the vast majority of retail investors lag the SP500 by more than the funds do.

The sad thing is, even when the rules allow them to bail on equities, it seems they don't/won't. VAAPX is one I had in my 401k based on the premise that the manager should get out of equities during a downturn. It's explicitly allowed to invest in any mix of equities, bonds and cash. Results? Down 37% over the last year, and they're STILL 80% in equities.

Good people are bailing. The number of mutual funds skyrocketed over the last 25 years. The pigmen got into the game and started skimming their fees to support their lifestyle.

This reminds of South. Cal. Toyota Dealers commercial I heard on the radio the other day: "Do not miss out on the great deals while SUPPLIES LAST".
Meanwhile, as was discussed on TF ad nauseum, San Pedro Port has turned into a colossal storage lot for Japanese auto manufacturers.

I was laughing so hard, almost got into a car wreck...

I got a "love" letter from those clowns last week. They wanted to know why I lowered my 401k contribution. Lets see here........... where do I begin?
1. No employer match
2. Crummy, re: negative return
3. I would like to have a little cash in hand.

Sorry Fido, I'll be investing in Sealy this year.

Probably their concern is that the less that gets invested into their funds, the less they make on management fees.
