Why on earth does this dumb%&*) not just go away. Instead he shows up every couple of months for an ass pounding from those that have it figured out.

Why?

I submit that the securitizers of these so-called "loans", didn't once think past their own windfall.

Phil Gramm was at least thrice removed from any originations of loans at UBS. He is the quintessential
example of the government enabling banking by proxy.

To be fair, Phil is doing what is legal. He is an advocate, stockholder, director AND lobbyist for UBS!

Anyone ever wonder why peoples want to be politicians?

It's not about the office...it's about what comes after! Is this a great country or what?

It seems clear that if GLB was the problem, the crisis would have been expected to have originated in Europe where they never had Glass-Steagall requirements to begin with.

What a dumbass statement! European Banks looked at the decreased regulation and increased leverage in America and started drinking the same kool-aid.

He can try to deflect the responsibility from contributing to this problem all he wants in a vain attempt to try to shine a positive light on his legacy.

Unfortunately for Gramm he OWNS THIS ONE!

Phill Gramm should be one of the first people strung-up if there is ever a popular uprising. The GLB bill repealing key provisions of Glass-Steagall set the table for the current catastrophe, and this douchenozzle introduced it to the Senate.

Phil Gramm is confirming the parameters of the Lawrence Summers smarm conspiracy for the planned continued looting of the American economy, part and parcel of this recent quote, “There should be a general inclination not to look back” except for “egregious cases,”.

Phil is saying: "Yeah, we did it, I was there, and their lack of activity in un-doing it is what's required to continue the smarm conspiracy. Their 'controllers' are pleased with recent non-developments. As you were, gentlemen."

Phil's little piece was doubtless team-written so is only confirmation of parameter specs as being mutually acceptable.

The conspiracy continues. The real moonbats will not note its significance, as per requirements, and will be silent.

Let's not forget to give credit to his wife Wendy, who ended up on the board of directors of Enron. She could never have qualified for this heady position without her "in depth" knowledge of the CFTC.

The reason why I am outraged with Senator Phildo is because he sold out the conservative movement. My outrage is one of betrayal.

There never was any intent to cut regulations for normal business, only for the financial sector.

Why? Because there's no money to be made by politicians by cutting the regulatory burden of normal business. Phil's squellings prove who his masters are.

There is an issue that isn't being adressed much - at least I don't see it. Even if housing prices plunge more there is still a huge problem with maintenance costs of all these large mcmansion houses.

Suppose a $1.2 million 6000 sq ft house with pool is sold for a bargain $200K (more likely $500K or more in reality) to someone who makes under $100K/year. The long-term maintenance costs could still eat the owner alive. A 6000 sq ft house is very expensive to maintain.

For example - a friend of mine replace the 15 year old A/C units at his 3000 sq ft house for $15K. A 6000 sq ft house would be approximately double I would guess so it could cost $30K - over 15 years that's $2000 per year just for A/C units. You start adding everything up - heating/cooling, water (much more expensive if you have a pool), other utilities, furniture, appliance replacements, landscaping, lawn maintenance, roof replacements, carpeting/floors, cleaning, repairs, painting, pool maintenance, insurance, etc., etc.

So who is going to move into these 5000+ sq ft homes? Less than 20% of Americans make over $100K and many of those aren't in the market for houses. So if someone making under $100K buys the house then either they won't keep the maintenance up and the house will slowly (or rapidly) decay, or they will leverage up (e.g credit cards) and not save a penny and live paycheck to paycheck and eventually blow up and not be able to keep the payments up.

There is a huge problem in that there are millions of these mcmansions that don't have anybody who can buy AND MAINTAIN for the long-term.

Yep. I had to replace the HVAC central systems (condensor, evaporator and furnace) in my home and it was right near $5k, and that was due to having a very good friend in the business who gave me a nice price.

Go quote that "as Joe Sixpack" and its probably 30% higher; there's no way around this - the maintenance is a real issue.

If you need a roof, it costs more (more squares to cover), etc.

Well let the ****sucker lobbyist for UBS deal with this:

ZURICH, Feb 21 (Reuters) - The right-wing Swiss People's Party (SVP) called on Saturday for retaliation against the United States over a U.S. tax probe into the country's biggest bank UBS that threatens prized banking secrecy.

Markytom,

Some handle Mc-Mansions frugally. Mine is about 15 rooms, and attic and basement. Paid cash for it.

Window shakers work fine. I have someone close who fixes those. I don't use the whole house and the property sits between two other stone/brick houses. Head to the basement to get cool and don't heat the water in the outside jacuzzi tub in the summer. Heated water in the Jacuzzi only in the fall and it's empty by winter.

I do my own maintenance. I'll concentrate on working two or three rooms at once. I have a large bedroom in process of skim coating, painting etc right now. I replace only as things become unrepairable.

Winter time? McMansion closed up and I'm at the farm house with a wood stove... wood from my mountain lot of fallen trees. Raising baby guinea and quail chicks. That's where I'm at now. Spitting wood makes for a nice work out program.

Immoral,

as you can see from Alanha's picture Gramm lives in a world of total vengeance upon the world of youth. Having fled his self, he hates youth's manifestations anywhere to be found in his world. Those are the beady eyes of a reptile lodged in his skull.

The snapping turtle of Texas.
