Typo alert: Seppuka - Seppuku. The Bushido Code is for samurai, which these guys certainly ain't. That Suburban is a good vehicle for its purpose, and may be a collectible some day.

TARP is done and over with. It's spent. Anything you think they have was gone before the vote today, you can bet on it. Bush/hank have 3 weeks left, congress is out till after that and they all have the UAW to blame it on. No way in hell is any TARP money going to help blue collar workers. ---------- It's justifiably immoral to try to deal in a moral fashion with an immoral entity. Seppuka, suppuku, it's a Japanese word that probably doesn't even sound like that. So it may be Seppuku for Paulson, but it's Hari Kari for Neel Kashkari. Nah. Just joking. I don't consider him to be a prime mover in this disaster. I'm shocked that Congress stood its ground. Really. After folding for the financials, they stood firm on this. Why? 1) Did they feel hornswaggled by their approval of the TARP, vowing never again to throw money away? Are they ****ed off about any cap in hand beggars coming to them any more? 2) Were they afraid to set a precedent. Today the auto companies, tomorrow California, Phoenix, Microsoft or Playboy? 3) Did they feel the financial infrastructure was far more important than the auto industry and so were willing to rescue it, but not GM? 3) Are they so greenified they think that GMs problems are a result of not having fuel efficient vehicles? Come on people. They made what people wanted for years, until the price of oil soared rather suddenly. 4) Or is there another reason we just wouldn't understand unless we saw and heard what they did, behind closed doors? ---------- I'm so depressed about outsourcing I called the suicide hotline and got a call center in Pakistan. They got all excited and asked me if I could drive a truck. Everything I write is my opinion and not to be considered proven fact. Nothing I write should be considered financial advice. bozonian: There is no mercy in letting a dying man squirm longer in pain, and that is why several voted against. I believe enough senators voted "NO" because a lifeline was the wrong thing to do LONG TERM. GM is going to file. They will come out the leanest car company on the planet if they can do it quickly. ---------- It'll get worse. Just wait.

not trying to go hyperactive on the posts this evening, but there is a possibility gettle****er knows something we don't. he might have a reading from the executive that if there is no deal, they will advance funding on a limited basis to make it to the next congress. wouldn't surprise me. as a representative of labor making around $70 an hour, he is insane or sly to risk a BK filing. GM is reported to have already contacted a BK law firm. its on bloomberg. side note: an interesting parlor game with my broker--which dow component will need gov't assistance next? hint: so far we've had AIG, C, and GM in up to their eyeballs, AXP JPM and BAC sucking at the teet, and I don't know what the heck that CP deal with GE amounts to, but its not immaterial to their health. I think BAC needs a round two really soon. suntrust already bellied up to the bar again... ---------- It'll get worse. Just wait.

Here's what I don't understand. Why is there any more OR less of a threat to the parts makers if say ONE of them (Big 3) goes down? If the monthly demand were to be 11-14 mill combined, would not the remaining two have the capacity to ramp up production to meet this demand collectively? Parts makers would just redistribute to the remaining two. The aggregate demand will be the aggregate demand - i.e. "it is what is is". Of course some consumers would be faced with the need to choose a 'substitute' product were their manufacturer of first choice to be the one that went down. But I just fail to see the validity of the "domino effect" threat. The demand is the demand be it 11, 12, 14 or even 8 going forward. Somebody help me understand ~ PS - I am leaving my girlfriend for this ticker in the morning. It's bigger than the both of us and we both know it. Boy is she going to be p_ssed. Last modified:

Thanks for the ticker Gen. Along the lines of things we don't yet know, I'm wondering what kind of discussions Gettlefinger has had with our President-elect's staff. Oh and not to be picky, but it's Dante's 8th circle of Hell that had the thieves, liars, counterfeiters, etc. (7th was violent types, suicides, etc.)Edit: 9th circle had traitors. cocoacash: accounts receivable between merchants are last to get paid in BK except for common shareholders. so if you sold GM 150MM in the last 45 days, you aren't going to get that amont back. add in the sales to ford, chrysler, and maybe even some other auto suppliers that could fold, and you quickly realize you aren't going to get paid for your sales. ---------- It'll get worse. Just wait.

@ Boz, the main leaders of the republican revolt (Shelby and DeMint) are the largest home of the foreign auto manufacturers here in the USA. I'm sure they are doing this out of principle.

Bah.. Paulson will cave and fork over the measly $15 billion. I really don't see how this doesn't happen. Give $15 billion and keep things floating. Deny $15 billion and send us into the next Depression just in time for Christmas. Is there really a doubt?

Letting Lehman fail burned Paulson badly, he's taken a lot of flack for that move ever since. Aside from that one lapse, when have Bernanke or Paulson *not* stepped in just before we plunged into the abyss? We're talking a measly $15 billion - it's not even a drop in their TARP bucket. This one should be easy for them.

Sanity, I think they get TARP money, but they did let WAMU fail, CDSes and all. Maybe they let Ford or TM (JPM equivalent) do a take-under
