And do I have it correct that PPI often goes up in times like these in a panic attempt by producers to maintain their margins? No guarantee that any price increase can or will make it to the retail level, but if it does I mean criminy - like Boz bless his soul - people's income ain't rising.

Pto, yep. Its an attempt to maintain margins and it will fail. Choose a straight up collapse or a demand collapse followed by a business collapse ---------- "The monetary base in ALL modern monetary systems is the sum of unencumbered assets against which one is both WILLING AND ABLE to borrow." - Me

Thanks for the research Karl. Nothing new here the media does this crap all the time. I personally love the field day the media is having with "Goldman's Great Earnings" Maybe one should do a friendly ticker on THAT!!! :D

Exactly. **** these headline writers. Just like you pointed out the other day KD if retail was so good why has Walmart stopped reporting monthly data? We can imagine that the food sales have crushed the margins as the product mix has changed to include what people need versus plastic crap from China. ----------

I remember when our MSM was lambasting Pravda for fudging news and economic data back in the bad old Soviet Days. Now, it is us who have to read between the lines in order to figure out what is really going on. Thanks, Gen for pointing these things out so that we, at least, have a good idea of what we are facing.

I can't wait to see how they'll spin this week's employment data. Should be fun to read.

"Beware the media and make sure you read behind the headlines." Genesis ... for they (their owners) are testing you for tolerance of doublespeak and signs of awareness of 180 degree reversals of position. Something the B-berg unit is noted for since last year. ---------- Now it appears the 'goal' is no longer to defeat communism. The goal now appears to rabidly loot, and has entered a new desperate phase where the utilization of slave labor for mercantilist gain has extended to bankruptcy for profit, and the stealing of the meager savings of the slaves themselves.

Thanks for bringing up Redbook, Karl. Redbook is an essential piece of information, very difficult to manipulate that says loads. I guess that's why the alphabets ignore it. Down 5.7%. Yeah, the consumer is doing great. Either that or everyone has jumped on board the consumption strike bandwagon. One more tidbit. From JNJ.com....top line sales down 7.4% YoY. We're talking pharmaceuticals here, not cars, not houses. INTC has been down 25% YoY for 2 straight quarters now. Can't wait to see tonight's number.

Quote:I can't wait to see how they'll spin this week's employment data. They'll say that, "Employment fell less than expected, fueling a rally in the markets." They'll quote some saying, "I thought unemployment was gonna be like 42%, but it was only 18%. I think recovery must be right around the corner." Then a BobbleHead will say, "See this is a great time to go shopping folks. And now a look at the fall fashions." Do you expect anything else? ---------- "You can know the name of a bird in all the languages of the world, but when you're finished, you'll know absolutely nothing whatever about the bird... To equate the press with Soviet-era Pravda is to insult Pravda. Russian journalists then had a gun pointed at their neck. American journalists are willing accomplices to what is going on. Current marching orders are to protect Chairman Maobama-- at any cost.

I posted the following on another thread, but I think it fits better here. It looks like we're on the cusp a major meltdown in the corporate world. Bankruptcies and increased layoffs to follow. Has this been covered? http://www.reuters.com/article/ousiv/idU.... U.S. companies sink deeper in debt as economy drags NEW YORK (Reuters) - Unbridled borrowing in the boom years has swelled Corporate America's debt burden to the highest levels on record, putting many cash-strapped companies at risk of going bust as economic malaise lingers. Even if the longest recession in decades is now petering out, growth will be so feeble that companies can not rake in enough earnings to offset their debt mountain, leaving many dangerously exposed. In the first quarter, the debt of U.S. industrial companies in aggregate exceeded 100 percent of their annual income for the first time, said Robert C. King, an economist at the Jerome Levy Forecasting Center in Mount Kisco, New York. ---------- "You can know the name of a bird in all the languages of the world, but when you're finished, you'll know absolutely nothing whatever about the bird...
