- You were writing a Ticker during the speech? That'd be so cool....to have hundreds of choices. *sigh* I have no faith that Washington will ever consider any of these ideas - hell, I believe they have no desire to actually FIX the system at all. All they want is more control. Obama isn't stumping, he's just gloating in attention. Although Mr. Wilson put a little damper on that.

I agree 100%. Unfortunately it'll never happen because the pols and their friends in the health care industry and elsewhere want more power and money. Fixing health care isn't the goal, it's the excuse. ---------- Freedom. Is there anything it can't do?

Their only desire is to continue the flow of the river of money. It's disgusting. I felt diss'ed as a Citizen under GWB ... I feel much worse under PBO. I'm feeling extremely tired this evening. It feels like my last embers of Hope for my kids are going out.

I'd say nearly all, if not all, bills that get passed now are not solutions but money and power grabs, simple as that. I like your plan Karl, it is simple and makes good sense. That means they will never go for it or anything like it, unfortunately. ---------- "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." - George Santayana "It is better to live for something rather than die for nothing." - George S. I love the idea of getting rid of the employer-based system. I don't think it should be disallowed, but like you said...make it that EVERYONE has the same offer, thus people would be more willing to buy it themselves. Not only does this decrease costs on the private-payer, it also makes employment much more flexible--now when you want to leave your job, you won't have to worry about what you'll do with insurance. Same price for Medicare vs. private-payer/other insurance is huge. Talk about transparency! One of my friends works at Humana...one of the perks he has is that he gets discounts on insurance and goodies (kinda like a rewards system) by using a pedometer that tracks the amount of steps he takes. Incentives would be much welcomed, too. Thanks for your work and efforts. :)

Hah! Rush played a montage today of BO speeches on various subjects, in each of which Obama stated at the end, in so many words, "if anyone else has a better plan, I'd love to hear it". Better - well, at least, alternate - plans were put forward in each case, and never even entertained by the WH... The End - the agenda - be's the alpha and omega here...the speeches are for da suckers. ---------- I say it's spinach, and I say the hell with it.

Lowering the prices is the way to go but this is too complicated to work. I say make the government pay for health care for everyone (minus a hefty deductible like $50 to keep people from wasting doctors' time). Have the Federal Government squeeze down the prices until 20% of doctors don't take government patients anymore. At that point you can be pretty sure you've lowered prices as far as you can. Health care providers either have to accept the prices, or basically quit because 99% of the customers will be on the government pay schedule. It's also quite fair. You aren't limiting anyone's ability to make money! If a doctor doesn't like the "Medic-All" rates, he can seek out his own customers who are willing to pay his prices from their own pockets. It acts the same as Gen's plan except it's trivial to manage. The other thing is, New York state already has what Gen describes. Companies operating in the state cannot refuse anyone insurance, so guess what, the rates are sky high ($2500/month for me and my wife 50 and 42) because the healthy people are paying for the unhealthy ones. I've heard that rates in New York city are $4000/month for 50 year olds. There's a HUGE amount of fat and graft in the healthcare system and it needs to be squeeeeeeezed out. ---------- I'm so depressed about outsourcing I called the suicide hotline and got a call center in Pakistan. They got all excited and asked me if I could drive a truck. Everything I write is my opinion and not to be considered proven fact. Nothing I write should be considered financial advice. Health care is a shell game. Lots of money moves from place to place but nothing is created. Another large part of the economy that is only about churning but adds nothing to the total.

Genesis, Your approach is spot on but the application via 'washington district of criminals' is impossible. However, it seems to me that your plan used as the basis for a patients bill of rights could simply become the only way Americans will patronize medical facilities. Certainly state-wide or regional health cooperatives could be formed by citizens to enforce these standards upon the medical empire. I pay cash for my medical treatments and my doctor once told me he made a better profit from treating me than he did from seeing a patient under ANY insurance scheme. Allot of Americans doing the same thing, formally within a co-op or more loosely within a 'patients society' or some such thing will start the country towards a tipping-point. Perhaps, TF could sponsor another "FED-UP" style WEB Site listing those medical facilities and doctors who have agreed to honor your Genesis Patients Rights Plan? __________________________________________________________________________ In the Soviet of Washington, where the County of King has successfully sued the pigman!

I've always thought the simple way to fix healthcare was to charge everyone a flat copay as low as $20 for office visits and as low as $5 for drugs. You do that probably 30% of your patient load and drug usage goes away voluntarily almost overnite. Unfortunately the La Raza groups, minorities, white trash and anyone who has 8 kids on Medicaid will go to war over a $20 copay and politicians that pull the trigger lose those votes forver.

I listened to his rant in it's entirety just to hear the "you lie" protest about benefiting illegals. Otherwise, it was just more of the same,"yes we can" bull**** where everyone else is going to do their bidding regardless of cost and at [paraphrased]" no cost or addition to the deficit". "Medicare trust fund" ? WTF is that? You mean like the "SS trust fund"? You can't tell me or America that it's not going to add to the cost of the "BULL**** trust fund". And what about his singlehandedly[paraphrased] "saving the economy from the brink of disaster"? I'm amazed he didn't break his arm patting himself on the back! He's the kinda guy you see at the beach who walks out into the surf as it continues to recede and starts talking about all the "crabs and neat stuff" to catch and eat just by picking it up.He encourages everyone else to take part and walk out with him,,"wow check it out!"....... By the time he and the rest stand up straight from the treasure hunt and see the Tsunami curling over it's to late to even pray.
