KD, I think that they probably do believe that (most of us) are that dumb. Unfortunately, most people are not and have no interest in paying attention to what's going on out there. Most people would rather watch sports or the latest dumb sitcom...rather than stay informed. I think that until a million people protest on the mall in DC and NYC is shut down by protests, they're unfortunately right ---------- "F**k CNBS, CONgress, Obama, the Democrats, the Republicans, the ratings agencies, the Banksters, the Fed, the FASB, all the government regulatory agencies, the Trilateral Commission, the Council of Foreign Relations, the G whatever, the UN, and any other bastard or big corporate interest that has a fingerprint on this

Nice post, and as always, point all my friends and co-workers to your blog. I agree people aren't dumb, but most are (willingly) ignorant or have the general default assumption that all is going to be allright eventually (as it always has in their mind). When we are < DOW 5,000, and people are hungry, then their collective anger will become prevalent. Methinks that the new Microwave crowd control military devices will be employed to disperse the crowds. In the mean time, I would like to see a peacful protest of shoes with names on them being placed on the steps of D.C. After all the mailings, faxes, and phone calls all we get is dumbed down form letters. Seagate has lost a ton of money on the 7200.11 drive debacle. There are tons of issues with many of these drives regarding firmware that Seagate is overwhelmed in resolving with RMAs etc. Western Digital is the preferred flavor currently. ---------- http://studenthome.nku.edu/~russelljo/flash/dudefalling.swf Last modified:

Hitachi builds nice drives - but competition now is fierce - Samsung for example makes pretty good drives and Western Digital is getting its MoJo back where Seagate has clearly lost theirs - the 1.5Tb 7200.11 is crap and the 1T 7200.11 not much better. The Chinese are getting into the game now as well but have a huge ways to go to catch up in performance/reliability. My experience with Samsung has been awful - every one of the drives I've had of theirs has failed within the first six months. ---------- "The monetary base in ALL modern monetary systems is the sum of unencumbered assets against which one is both WILLING AND ABLE to borrow." - Me

Everything - including their laptop drives. I won't buy anything they make in the disk drive area - every one of them (literally) has failed. Last experience was ~6-8 months ago. I ignore infant mortality/DOAs but in-service failures are extremely serious for obvious reasons. IMHO Samsung's drives are crap. I've had two Hitachis that were DOA (probably shipping damage) but zero in-service failures in the last two years. That's not bad consider that I've got a rack full of them around here. The Seagate 250s have also been excellent but I won't touch their larger ones due to the reported firmware problems - that's the sort of trouble I DO NOT need. ---------- "The monetary base in ALL modern monetary systems is the sum of unencumbered assets against which one is both WILLING AND ABLE to borrow." - Me

I thought the ticker had a clear message until the end. I found that the segue into Hitachi diminished the impact of what had been written above. However, I may be a minority and ADD-challenged

Thanks for the heads up - I doubt I'll be buying any more Seagates or Samsungs now as my worse nightmares all seem to revolve around failed server disks... And of course, thanks for your always excellent Tickers! Gmak: It came up from the earnings reports, and I can see why karl talked about it, it did make sense logically. I think it would be a poor ticker for somebody to read first, but that's my biggest complaint. Now for my own segue... I'm using a 500gb wd right now that survived the absolute worst shipping condition I've ever seen in my life. It was in one layer of bubble wrap, directly against the side of the box (with other stuff in it) and the box was mutilated. There was a cut in the bubblewrap and box from the edge of the drive where something had hit it so hard. There was also a tiny nick in the aluminum drive case that probably happened at the same time. It was a box that should have been about 18" long and was AT LEAST 4" shorter when I got it. Another drive, motherboard, ram and PS were in the same box. Oh, and the ram was in it's plastic jacket, directly against another side of the box, no padding AT ALL except between it and the mb's box. This was from newegg too, which suprised me even more. I dreaded putting it together, but what the hell, still going strong a month later, no issues AT ALL. ---------- It's justifiably immoral to try to deal in a moral fashion with an immoral entity. I'm a buyer of Hitachi drives myself. IT friends have suggested them to me for at least the past 5 years. I have a relative who worked for Hitachi in mainframe sales for at least 2 decades and he would get samples of next-gen technology well before it was released to the public. Cool stuff.

Be careful w/ Samsung monitor screens too. They are manufactured in varied locations w/ varying quality and they have made it harder to track what you have.

I believe the failure lies in the corpotocracy. Both parties and their hacks in office ARE the reason we are where we are, the level of incompetency, greed and corruption is astounding. As a true independent I am constantly amazed at the faith people put into either party. Democrats and Republicans are equally dirty, they sell their soul(and the taxpayers future) to make their future. Bush was a disaster. Obama will be one. Though the name badge has changed the thieves are still in control. I pine for the day a true third party emerges, one that embraces fiscal conservatism and social liberalism.

Yes, they think we are this dumb. They will keep obfuscating the truth by wrapping it with mathematical and economic BS and some obvious "market terms" that we should have understood to show us how dumb we are. One of the key characteristics of a serial killer is extreme arrogance. They think they won't ever be caught. My stepson's 8th grade teacher told me that the math problem 3-5 was algebra because the answer was negative and that he didn't need to know how to do that without a calculator. Four other teachers and the vice principal sitting at the same table agreed and one told me not to argue with her because she was "always right." We really are that dumb. Our kids will be worse. I have 4 Seagate 7200.10 drives and they have worked flawlessly for the past 2-3 years. I have a couple of Western Digital, and one Samsung drive. My least favorite drive is the Samsung. Cooling is key.. You don't need a monster fan, just a little airflow will do. I also have one Seagate 7200.11 1 TB drive with the latest firmware. It better not flake out on me. ---------- http://studenthome.nku.edu/~russelljo/flash/dudefalling.swf

Asimov, we have people teaching who don't understand what they are teaching. How they get credentials I'll never know. As long as they have lesson plans written out and follow state guidelines and their students pass PACT their jobs are safe. When I was in junior high and high school, we had retired engineers, editors and others with advanced degrees teaching math and English. I'll never forget my 8th grade mechanical drawing teacher. Retired from the old Lockheed; he carried a ruler with him and walked around the room watching us work. Cut up and you got your hands wacked. Every teacher I had could talk 99% of the students into a corner they couldn't get out of. By the time I was in the 10th grade that had stopped because the students brought knives to class. ' A lot of forces have come together to dumb down American education. ' Start with the Supreme Court and go from there. Indeed. They should have declared publicly-funded education (among a hundred other things) unconstitutional a hundred years ago.

Add one more critical leg to the FED's lack of regulation. In testimony before congress Bernanke admitted that the FED had the authority to regulate Mortgage Terms if they so desired to do so. Well guess who looked the other way as NINJA (No Income, No Job, No assets) mortgages were being initiated all across the country. Last modified:
