I am in agreement with your summer - fall estimate of how long Ben can keep his head underwater. This thing is clearly unsustainable and the pace that it unfolds so far shocked the most bearish members of this forum.

Thanks for posting this Karl.

Both Erin Burnett and Mark Haines cross the line from irritating to down right infuriating. If Mark Haines is so concerned about counterparties to AIG credit default swaps, why doesn't he fork over his entire salary to help make them whole? They both deserve a big John Stewart F-You!

No video on Firefox.

While I'm generally opposed to government micromanaging business (which often ends poorly), I agree that if these idiots need my tax money to float their companies, then by God, they can make do with a GS salary.

Don't like it, don't take it.

Man, the CNBC crew is ****ing retarded (or more likely just crooks). Sherman did a helluva job putting the boot to their neck though, and soundly trouncing them in the "debate." Well done!

Sherman has spoken out all along and been amazingly accurate and honest. He is a bright light in a very dark hole.

Great ticker, Karl! Sure is nice to hear some sense coming out of the CONgress, even makes one think there is some hope!

They're lucky that the "punitive action" isn't coming in the form of 100 year prison terms or worse, angry mobs of citizens performing an 1873-style "banker hanging" on the lampposts, and might want to consider that if they keep this crap up the government and citizen response might morph into one of those other two possibilities.

I've long advocated for #1 but I'm getting darn close to where I'd cheer on those engaged in #2.

Yep - I'm starting to believe you when you say you're unelectable.

But it would be impractical at best, dangerous at worst, to get rid of everyone at Financial Products, according to AIG officials. If everyone leaves, Pasciucco said, "you don't have people that really, truly understand the book [of business]. We're still big enough that that matters."

If they did walk out the door, who would volunteer to work at the Chernobyl of the financial world? And what would become of the mammoth portfolio that remains?

"It would become the biggest naked position on Wall Street," one longtime Financial Products executive said, "and everybody would exploit it."

Hmm... Any lotto opportunities there?

Brilliant!

I remember back when TARP was passed he was one of the very few sane voices on the subject. Erin and Mark sound like greedy squealing pigs. If you don't like making 250,000 while working for the Gov. go into private business.

Mark is just being contrarian. He agrees with him, I guarantee that.

And isn't my guarantee as good as gold.

I love watching these CNBC anchors trying to defend Wall Street salaries.

Erin says: "Shouldn't you be focusing on more important problems rather than the salaries?" You dumb bitch. The salaries are the reason the pigmen levered up so much and ultimately created this systemic crisis. Now they want to keep collecting the salaries even after the whole thing has been blown to pieces?

Mark says "I'm no expert, but...." Sorry, I stopped listening to you after that. CNBC: Let me know when you have someone who is an expert, until then STFU.

You think Erin sounds bad, you should hear Michelle Lee defend the bonuses and the Pigmen. I want to punch that bitch every time I see her!

Sherman is the sme guy that blew the whistle last fall on TARP being a conduit to pay off foreign banks.

Circus for the crowds...I appreciate Congressman Shermans comments about capitalism, but until Congress goes after credit default swaps and the broker/dealers who make make money shorting while holding cds, the looting continues. All Mr Sherman is saying is that AIG employess should be payed on a scale similar to federal employees, now that they are .gov employees. Makes it even more clear AIG was nationalized.
