Nope, you're 100% correct. They have no idea where this leads. Obama's too busy meeting with movie stars, going on tv to spout more BS and watch NCAA basketball.

That .gov budget chart was very interesting. Notice the size of the interest piece? If the "Other" doesn't disappear, it is going to grow - just like in Brazil - until even if the .gov has an operating surplus (they cost less to operate than they take in in taxes), there will still be a fiscal deficit from servicing the debt. Thank you for this extremely depressing ticker...Quote:Cutting "other spending" (that is, all other programs) by 50% would leave us with about $500 billion net-net for social programs - forcing a reduction of about sixty percent in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid - all at once. Karl, I apologize if you've previously addressed this, but I have certainly not seen an answer to this question - SS is taxed as OASDI separately from income. It currently and through 2017 is supposed to provide a net surplus to the .gov (from IOUSA). I recognize that the government spends it in order to reduce the overal deficit. However, is the OASDI placed in the .gov's general funds or are they initially separated in order to first pay SS recipients? If the latter is the case, how can SS be cut by 60%? I appreciate your input ---------- "F**k CNBS, CONgress, Obama, the Democrats, the Republicans, the ratings agencies, the Banksters, the Fed, the FASB, all the government regulatory agencies, the Trilateral Commission, the Council of Foreign Relations, the G whatever, the UN, and any other bastard or big corporate interest that has a fingerprint on this 2009-03-19 09:09:40

I agree with Gen about demand collapse but in the case of certain things like oil and food, I think there's a good chance we get a brutal spike if only because of refining and transportation issues. Whatever happens...it will be horrendous if Ben's wrong and I just don't see how he can be anything but wrong, given enough time.

It gets worse with the TALF. The 'lie' will be that private equity is purchasing the toxic assets from banks and that the credit markets are 'unfrozen'. The 'truth' is that the Fed is loaning them 95% of the money on a non-recourse basis and that the private equity won't even participate if forced to sit in the first-loss position. The potential for fraud with the upcoming TALF program is astronomical as hedge funds within an arms length relationship of a major bank will agree to overpay for the trash using the Fed's money. The trash ultimately takes losses and the hedge fund writes them off to the Fed. So long as they aren't greater than 95% losses, the private equity risks nothing. The banks clear off all the crap to the taxpayer. 2009-03-19 09:21:48

Karl, "In the meantime, for however long this rally in the market lasts (and it might be a while if the sheeple misdiagnose what's coming - if the newsletters I've seen thus far this evening are any clue, most people have) use it to raise cash and be prepared for some really tough times." What should we do in Europe? If I follow your logic, Euro is going to crash before the us economic meltdown. Does that mean that we must start raising US dollars in Europe to prepare the coming tsunami? What would you suggest as an alternative in case of US dollar shortages? Last modified:

great ticker as always karl. fwiw philadelphia has about 10% unemployement and rising. mayor is increasing sales tax 1% to keep pools open this summer, and proposing increasing realestate taxes 19% and 17% in next 2 years. mainly because of the entitlements and mass amount of resources it needs. there are sections of the city where people pay $100 year in r/e taxes (of course in those areas i would consider it being safer in afganistan) ...so if anything i can see this going to **** real fast, just from my percpective ---------- "I had to look at her today and sat there staring at her bronze naked body laying in the sun, a flaming red candle in her hand she took me in.
