If Ben has been "buying and holding" for the past ten months, you know what game I've been playing?

Wait for it... Wait for it...

Excellent, Karl. I would add just one thing. Stein isn't an ass, he's a pompous ass. Going out now for more rice and beans.

I could not agree more. That jackass has been spouting bullish non-sense going back to August 2007 when he loved Bear Sterns, Merril and Citi to name a few.

Here is another jackass spouting non-sense. I still think he is arguing that we are not in a recession. He was pro-bailout and now that it has failed he has not apologized.

It was illustration of the stupidity that gets invited to "testify" before Congress.

What levels of decline in GDP and increases in unemployment (U6 mind you, not the bull**** the government uses as its official stat) do you expect?

20% cumulative GDP decline, U6 > 15% with near-certainty, likely to go over 20%. Confidence of those levels being met or exceeded at this point is over 50%.

To be covered in depth in my "Year In Review" ticker due out in late December.

I figured a decline in GDP of around 10-15%. I agree on u6. It's already at around 12%.

Ben Stein has a B.S. in Economics from Columbia. Apparently, a B.S. in Economics begets B.S on investing.

But to destroy an entire economy, it takes a Ph.D.

Don't be too hard on Ben, he doesn't know better.

Besides, he is a gift to us all! If you have done the opposite of what Ben suggested, you would have earned a ton. The man is a goldmine of disinformation. One wonder if he is playing against his bluff himself.

Remember his Merrill Lynch buy recommendation at 75 in 2007? Goldmine, I tell you.

The funny thing is, if and when we get a depression, there will be people like Ben Stein and Ben Bernanke that will think it was caused because there wasn't enough intervention and money thrown at the problem than there has been up to this point. That is was Ben is saying here! And so sadly we still will not have learned our lesson on "How To Prevent A Depression".

Let's get one thing straight. We are a service Economy. Manufacturing officially died in the 1990's. YOU CAN NOT STIMULATE A SERVICE ECONOMY. (well, you can, but its called a credit bubble)

I just wonder if Gen could win Ben Stein's money.

Why doesn't he ever go back and reread his fathers axiom:

I agree with Gen that a retrace to 500 on the S&P is almost certain, and 200 isn't out of the question. The next strong support on INDU is somewhere around 6000, which some slight support in the mid-7000s. Below that is the 4000s.

Bravo Gen..I cant stand Ben Stein..why people like him..a second rate actor..has become a supposed financial expert just shows you what passes for knowledge now. This guy is a total twit..I remember him last summer 2007 going on and on about how the big investment banks are so well run and that nobody should panic and sell but be buying if anything. He deserves to be blasted..he is a total idiot.
