Unfair?

Take a look at New York's bloated budget for this year. Maybe it'll knock some common sense into the state lawmakers when the cost of borrowing money goes up.

So, if my kid gets a 'D' in a class for doing poorly, I should compain to his teacher that he should not get the grade because it is jeopardizing his future?

Nice lesson to teach our kids.

"states like Florida and California dug their own hole during the housing fraud boom"

Add Nevada, Clark County (by coincidence the Commission Board chairman is Rory Reid, son of Harry), and the City of Las Vegas (with the worlds happiest Mayor) to that list.

None are very happy right now, as tax revenues are literally collapsing. Yet the City has an answer: BORROW money and build a not needed new City Hall because it will create JOBS. No joke; an observer like myself cannot make this stuff up.

Treat it as a warning shot against Moodys' and other ratings agencies not to downgrade the US treasury.

Mark the remark: Downgrade of US treasury will only come after the bond market dislocation, similar to what happened in the AAA ratings of subprime.

Just so you know, numerous parents do exactly that every day. And they think they are doing their kid a favor.

Borrowing money to create jobs to build something that is in itself not productive is a waste of time. That's my 2 cent summary of what the stimulus package will acomplish.

Maintenance is a cost of doing business - it does not really help inprove productivity, just maintain the status quo.
We're borrowing money to keep the lights on in a failing business.

Palm Beach County...epicenter of stupid spending based on speculation of increasing population, tax revenues from quadrupled RE, and new construction. Teachers were told to wear red clothes and bandaids on their faces yesterday, to symbolize that "cuts hurt".

Political bullying of Moody's will help to distort the economy even further. Not to mention the epistemological issues in defining the word "fair" objectively.

Yet another argument for a separation between the state and the economy.

For what it's worth, I'm a registered Democrat, though I'm more of an centrist/independent (voted for Obama, but didn't vote for any congressfolk who voted for the TARP).

But Karl is 100% right, Barney Frank is among the worst, a complete poster child for reckless lending on all levels. The guy needs to be thrown out of office.

So I guess it's OK with Barney to require the market to charge governmental or pseudo-governmental entities in state and local governments low interest rates while at the same time it's OK charging exhorbitant loan rates to J6P by the banks? Barney wants low spreads to keep his government solvent while letting the banks gice out high spreads to try to fix their untenable cash positions with "enhanced cash flow" as they rob the populace.

That's not socialism, Barney Frank. It's not even good communism. In the old Soviet Union, they called it "Nomenklatura". If you were among the named "clean ones" you got to take advantage of, ****, rob the rest of the people who stood in line waiting for a crumb of food.

Just like Rome. As the demands of the fewer continue to be imposed on the many unjustly, the outrages will come faster and more furiously as they eat up the assets of the country. Then there will be an adverse reaction to this destruction of value at some point. However, I don't think it will be the people of the US that cause the initial tremors that presage the Fall of the US Republic. No, those tremors will come from our "financial partners" as they force the market to re-position our screwed up economic environment.

Thrown out of office? I think he should be promoted with a new title:

Fiscal Authority Treasurer of Housing Oversight Management Office, or FAT HOMO for short.

This guy is pathetic. When America takes back the Capitol you guys better be able to run faster than me, because I'm headed to his office first.

Barney Frank is a very good representation of what this country has become. And the values he portrays paints a picture of our what we can expect from government in the future. My guess is his position in Congress is safe, and he will keep his job for as long as he wants it.
