Very well said! I am sending that ticker around as much as I can and I hope it generates some signatures.

The site where I usually host The Ticker was moved over the weekend (they physically moved equipment) and their FTP server is squicked. I changed the DNS pointers but it may be a couple of hours before the link works again due to DNS cache considerations. ---------- I used to play flute; I wonder if I can play a fife? Redduted. Is Digg gone? Personally, I prefer Reddit, if it's one or the other. ---------- Cthulhu R'yleh Goldman Sachs Last modified:

The chart is on the other server - there's a serious FTP problem where I usually host these, and the chart can't be replaced, unfortunately. Gen: Someone correct me if I am wrong, but it looks to me like both the digg and the reddit buttons currently on the ticker point to an earlier submission to digg and reddit. As such, they aren't going show up on the front pages, or get noticed by anyone. ---------- Cthulhu R'yleh Goldman Sachs 2008-03-31 20:18:37

Great ticker! The only minor quibble I have with it is the the definition of greed, I've heard people I worked for quoting stuff like greed is good and I always point out IMO that once it gets to greed it's gone too far by definition. Wanting to make money is not evil at all but greed is by definition again in my opinion the obsession with making money to the point you compromise principles and that's really where it all goes wrong. ---------- At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. The index page Digg and Reddit buttons will never be correct (and can't be) as they're in the template. If you click the actual article item, it will work correctly. I'm trying to figure out a way around this problem, but I'm not sure I will be able to. ---------- I used to play flute; I wonder if I can play a fife? Hands down consistently the best daily commentary on the financial world of them all. With some great one liners..... ..."Circle, meet jerk." ..."While Paulson, Bernanke and the other clowns sit around giving their "best friends on Wall Street" Lewinskis." ---- The light went on for me after Gen highlighted McKinnon's article as to what is driving the low Treasury rates. 1) Fed lowers rates 5.25% to 2.25%. 2) Foreing capital avoids US debt markets. 3) Foreigners sell US$. 4) Foreign Central Banks buy US$ to defend their local currency. 5) Foreign CBs park these US$ mostly in treasuries. 6) This foreign CB demand for treasuries drives treasury rates to near zero. Sure this has been mentioned before but - what about all the people that committed a Federal crime by lying on their mortgage apps? Or the mortgage brokers that colluded? Seriously the crime goes all the way from the bottom to the top. Would that just be too much crime to ever prosecute? You're right G, the USA became a banana republic (about the time W took office.) IMO nothing will change until possibly after the elections or the federal government collapses ala England - defaulting on debt. At this point there's too much crap to unwind and too many people with dirty hands. Think about how long it took to unwind LTCM. And this is orders of magnitude worse. Just waiting for RTC to be set up. With any luck there will be a rash of prosecutions after the next elections for anyone that Bush forgets to preemptively pardon. 2008-03-31 21:06:45

Great Ticker! A Pocket of TRUTH! The banks and IB's begged for less govermant regulation in the late 90's. They got it. Now that they have scrooed the pooch, they want a govermant bail out. Badbeat, I understand that you are looking for someone to point the finger at but you should point the finger at me, at Genesis and at yourself as well as pointing the finger at Bush. Remember, you are a voter Badbeat. Spend some time at the following link and realize that it was under Reagan's watch when the Treasury first dipped it's fingers into the Social Security TRUST fund. http://mwhodges.home.att.net/ It was under Clinton's watch when the TRUST Funds were raided to the point that Clinton claimed a balanced budget! And finally it is under the Bush watch that the problem has grown so large that it is beyond hiding. 2008-03-31 21:41:15

with every ticker I feel more like I'm living in two universes : the tf universe of diligent investigative financial journalism and the msm/ cnbs universe of folly, lies, and fantasy. We must cope with and trade living a line from an old Jim Morrison song- "I straddle the fence and my balls hurt" Trading 'the tape we get' takes ignoring the proper market commentary here and elsewhere, and the treasuries market action. the wall street tape sure does not match reality. at least yet. (I can not believe the damn home builders were almost the number one performing group in q1. just boggles the mind. 'Boss I ****ed up and lost us a million dollars. And were gonna lose 3 more million. Thats ok I'll give you a 30 percent raise just for the hell of it.) ---------- If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering and to prosper; but if we and our posterity neglect its instructions and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity.
