"The nation's second-largest consumer electronics retailer, behind Best Buy Co., plans to open 50 to 60 stores in the coming months in a new, smaller format that it calls the City. They'll be staffed with Generation Y employees carrying computer tablets to look up stats on any product in the company. Shelves have been cleared of merchandise with ho-hum sales to focus on blockbuster sellers. Computers, cameras and video games are all hooked up and ready for hands-on testing.

The staff recites such mottoes as "Keep it real" and holds twice-daily rituals of "shameless self-recognition."

Wow, that sounds like a winning business model I want in on. I really want to go to a store with a ****ty selection so some clueless teenage dickbag can sell me a TV while "keeping it real." Who comes up with this ****?

Hell, they had to do something. I go there every month or so and can't believe the wasted space/broken floor models/lackadaisical staff. Really a crummy store.

What do you expect from a store that fires its best and most senior performing sales staff and then attempts to "rehire" them back and pay them 20% less.

If I can't find something on CraigsList or eBay THEN I go to Best Buy.

Otherwise, I'll leave Circuit City for the Sheeple to shop there.

Besides, CC, does have an especially horrid selection.

I hope they lose their ass.

I think they have Apple Store envy. Except they're clueless. They think that hiring "slackers" like on TV with lots of demos is going to work.

In reality, Apple Stores are heavily staffed, and the "slackers" are actually pretty smart and competent most of the time. The reason is that smart and competent young people (e.g. doing a summer job or something before their real job) don't feel embarrassed to work for Apple like they would for Circuit City.

Smaller as in "a hole in a wall"? like RSH? That should go well...

D-to-tha-izziggDel.icizzlesFacebookF-to-tha-izzarkGoogleNewsvineRedditYahooPrintReprintsPizzay comment T-to-tha-izzext size: Circuit City Stores Inc. Chief Executive Philip Schoonova is hop'n he can makes more out of less in tha latest attempt ta turn around tha big-box chain fo' sheezy.

The nation's second-lizzles poser electronics retaila, behind Best Buy Co. , plans ta open 50 ta 60 stores in tha com'n months in a new, smalla format tizzy it calls tha City. They'll be staffed wit Generizzles Y employees carry'n computa tablets ta look up stats on any product in tha company. Shelves hizzy been cleared of merchandise wit ho-hum sales ta focus on blockbusta cracka. Computa, cameras n video games is all hooked up n ready fo` hands-on test'n . One, two three and to tha four.

The staff recites such mottoes as "Keep it real" n holds twice-daily rituals of "shameless self-recognizzles

The City is a window into tha kind of company Circuit City hopes ta become, as innovative as tha genius bar at Apple stores n as convenient as a drive-through pharmacy. One day, Schoonova imagines, Circuit City's tech-help team, Firedog, may even be its biggest business, wit retail on tha sidelizzles.

But such visions remain far friznom tha brutal reality. Once known fo` its customa service, Circuit City slashed its workforce by 3,400 last year n squeezed out $150 million in general expenses fo' sheezy. So far this fiscal year, it has lost mizzy than $300 million, n Circuit City's stock price dropped ta a clos'n low of $3.60 last month, tha lowest since tha early 1990s n dizzle from a 52-week intraday high of $21.54.

Investors is trippin' antsy, n Wizzy Street has begun rhymin' whetha tha company should put itself on tha auction blizzay . I thought i told ya, nigga I'm a soldier.

"This proved ta be a disastrous ****tail," said Daniel Nigga an analyst wit Jefferies & Co . Its just anotha homocide. "The gap wit Best Buy has widened considerably in every wizzy n clos'n it will takes time, if it is even possible at this point."

The rollout of tha City W-to-tha-izzill be a crucial tizzle of tha company's plizzay ta boost profit follow'n a sharp dizzy in tha price of flat-panel TVs dippin' tha 2006 holiday season tizzy eroded its margins . Hollaz to the East Side.

"The televizzle business permanently changed," Schoonova said. "izzy us, it meant a real challenge ta our business model."

Circuit City acknowledges that tha past year has been dismal. But Schoonova n otha top execizzles said they also have seen baller of hizzle . Im crazy, you can't phase me. Online sales n revenue frizzom Firedog is grow'n by double digits. Prototizzles of tha City stores, whizzich is `bout 20,000 square feet, generated as much money as traditizzles stores of 30,000 square feet or more, wit lowa costs n a wanna be gangsta profit margin.

In an interview at corporate heezeequarters in Richmond, Vizzle Schoonova said tha company stumbled coz it tried ta force too much change too quickly.

"I think we had a good plan," he said. "I thizzink it took longa tizzle we expected."

Rappa has instituted weed-smokin' changes ballin' tha bloodbath of 2006. One of tha mizzle controvizzles moves was fir'n 3,400 employees last year who tha shot calla determined were paid too much, then award'n retention bonuses ta top execizzles several months lata.

Meanwhile, Circuit City revamped tha way its remain'n 40,000 worka performed they jobs thats off tha hook yo. Ratha than specializ'n in one department, tha company retrained employees ta work in multiple zones. It remains ta be seen how long investors wizzle wait fo` Cracka changes ta takes hold. Mizzy Wattles, who owns tha private Ultimate Electronics retail chain n has a 6.5 percent stakes in Circuit City, said he is interested in chang'n top managizzles at tha retaila, merg'n it wit anotha company or perhaps trippin' control of it himself, accord'n ta a fil'n wit tha Securizzles n Exchange Commission.

Circuit City has rejected two buyout attempts in recent years, one by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim Helu in 2003 n mother****a friznom Boston hedge-fund Highfields Capital Managizzles in 2005 fo' sho'. Analysts have begun pointedly ask'n managizzles `bout seek'n similar strategic alternizzles . Death row 187 4 life.

"People jizzy don't hizzle a lot of patience wit them right nizzay said Stephen Baka, vice president of industry analysis fo` consuma research fizzle NPD Group. "They really have ta find a way ta right tizzy S-H-to-tha-izzip as fizzy as possible."

Holy frickin' crap. This story is hilarious (even without snoopifying it).

Every elderly person should apply to be a salesperson there. The company has already professed a preference for hiring a particular age group (Generation Y). Let the lawsuits fly! They're down 5% today, probably just on people shorting them for this hilarious press release.

Circuit City sucks, plain and simple. I will not be sad to see them go. Between them and CompUSA, I find it astounding that no one can seem to get electronics right in the market (with the exception of Apple, though it's slightly different.) Best Buy is okay, but I find them infuriating to deal with. Buying a TV just shouldn't be so ******n difficult.

"Keep it real"? Jesus, I used to work in advertising and if I had proposed anything remotely similar, I'd have been fired on the spot or ridiculed until I left.

Smells like desperation to me.

RIP.

Keeping it real, yo! Just keep giving me those closeout discounts as CC goes out of business. Hope Mr. GenY guy at least gets a commission on the sale - base pay is probably min wage.

OTOH, I was in a Radio Shack recently and the staff was incredibly helpful - they must have changed the comp with some incentives. And can't beat the price, although quality is somewhat suspect..
