Yep. Speculative premia is not the same thing as value. You folks who think it is will get a rude surprise. Exactly when is as impossible to determine as it was with the equity downturn we're taking now. However, the inevitability of that turn is an absolute. All we are arguing about is timing. ---------- "The monetary base in ALL modern monetary systems is the sum of unencumbered assets against which one is both WILLING AND ABLE to borrow." - Me

Y'know....I'd LOVE to quit on gold. Man, how I'd like to just settle back and have a nice 7% long bond pumping for the rest of my few years left. Or a 9% REIT that has solid tenants. Or a 12% mortgage with rising equity and a non deadbeat owner. Man, I'd LOVE that. :^)

Recently, we celebrated my moms 83rd. I took her to one of those quaint little northern Italian bistros in Tampa, go figure. Anyhow, the discussion turned from this is great phucking food to why I was so sucessfull in option trading. After giving little thought, I said mom, all companies BK eventually, and its my job to discover which ones will go TU first. You see, its really simple, if one simplifies the equation. This is why I am long GOLD. Gold will never TU. And the more CB's fight it, the higher she flys, just like an eagle. Speaking of eagles, I got a bunch of them minted by the the US treasury, and they say 50$ on the reverse. Still can't figure that one since they aren't considered money.... Silly me.

What will you think if those Eagles are mandated to exchange for $50 Duval? Ever think about that? It not only can happen, if your "doomsday scenario" comes about and our currency is destroyed - it will. ---------- "The monetary base in ALL modern monetary systems is the sum of unencumbered assets against which one is both WILLING AND ABLE to borrow." - Me

Gen, governments hate gold, unlike realestate they don't tax it on a yearly basis yet. Thats gotta **** hillary off to the nines. Besides there is always a FREE market underground, overground, whatever. BTW, I am no doomsday wantabee. I like my 900 count sheet creature comforts. Speaking of Sheets, KD; I didn't mint this one, but by gawd, I understand the rules. I think you do as well...

I think bennie will roach our cash thru EXCESSIVE rate cuts. Not my choice. thereby making gold a good bet. His decision. I have sold no gold, and as a fact I will sell no gold until I see 'we will buy gold for cash' signs on every street corner, just like I last saw in 1980. Having said all that, the yellow metal with its perfectly complete electron orbital is the ancient medal of kings. Perhaps you should get aquainted with an ounce or two! Bennie doesn't control rates. I know you don't want to hear it, but its true. Notice something not-so-amusing - there was no huge liquidity dump to defend the FFT today. What did Bennie know? That commercial credit demand had cratered in the last few days - he was basically forced to drop. The TAF has made it harder to track this accurately (bastidges) but facts are facts, and the Slosh does not lie. ---------- "The monetary base in ALL modern monetary systems is the sum of unencumbered assets against which one is both WILLING AND ABLE to borrow." - Me

Duval - "I have sold no gold, and as a fact I will sell no gold until I see 'we will buy gold for cash' signs on every street corner, just like I last saw in 1980." Thats my plan also. I'll sell my gold when we see the sort of bubble-maina we saw for gold in 1980 (I know there are others here old enough remember that) or for tech stcoks in 99/2000 or for house just recently. I think the big difference between you and I is that I think the odds are against this happening. I'm covered if it does, and unlike some on this forum, I do think there is a chance it will happen. For the most part though, I'm looking at my gold as an inheritance to pass down to my kid more than I'm looking at it as an investement. ---------- "What part of 'we bailed you out' do you not get?" - Elizabeth Warren, Jan. 23, 2010

Actually the gold "confiscation" of 1933 had a little publicized glitch. Exception was made for "rare or unusual" coins. http://www.blanchardonline.com/beru/conf.... I don't have a cite, but in the numismatic press several years ago I read the definition as "practiced" was 5 of each date and mintmark per denomination. Actually a pretty huge amount of gold could be retained. For the time. IF the owner read the entire law. They relied on the public's ignorance and patriotism to follow the general media reporting that it required ALL gold to be "cashed" in. That's the reason that many now will only buy the American Eagles gold coins as those require no 1099 to be filled out on purchase by a dealer. The Maple Leafs and Krugerrands must be reported on any sale over 25 oz per day. ..which is sort of haphazardly applied... Many dealers interpret it to be 25 ...OR... more. There are still a few physical gold buyers who buy the circulated older $20 face value coins in fear of a confiscation. FWIW

How can they confiscate what they don't know you have? So what they make it illegal to conduct trade with, at some point that will pass. Plus, if you have all your eggs in one basket then you have not learned much from this forum. I am positioned and repositioning myself as events warrant for a wide variety of scenarios. I am not swinging for the fences but trying to cover all bases. While I would love to hit it big, my main goal is not to be standing in the breadlines if they come. Gold wasn't "legal" to own til 1975. Krugerrands had to be ASKED for at coin shops back in 71 . But they traded. Same in Oakland, CA when Mandela was unfree (or wotever) The dealers had to keep a sign saying "We don't trade in Krugerrands" to save their windows. You had to ..wink... to buy or sell them. But they are as easy to buy stuff with as any stock cert or deed.
