From my ticker.....

  1. The S&P closes under the 1490 level. That's second-level support, and has been approached several times recently - but it has held.
  2. China blows up (stocks).
  3. Goldman, Merrill, and Bear Stearns all close under their 50s. Both Merrill and Bear have.
  4. HGX below trendline support. This is a marker. On technicals, it appears this may continue downward.
  5. The Nasdaq Composite breaks the 50. This occurs at roughly 2559. The Nasdaq usually breaks down first.
It appears we have (2) in process, (3) and (4) are in, and we're waiting on (1) and (5)

IMHO these are the important markers. The news flow will drive these.
